Full-Time Job!

I promised I would keep everyone updated on my new career. In case you haven’t heard, I am a stay-at-home-husband as of March 11th. I must admit, the first week was pretty successful. Well, I really don’t have anything to compare success to, so let’s just say it went well. It started off Monday morning with my Job Coach having me hit the ground running. I applied to several part-time jobs, landed one interview at a local restaurant, which I should hear back from early next week. You may be wondering what else I did. Clearly, applying for a few jobs and landing an interview did not take up 40 hours, and you’re right. So, I decided to break down my 40-hour week for you all:
  • Job Search engines – 2 hours (There are only a few legit sites. After about the third page, I quickly grow tired of seeing
Marketing/Sales Director – from the comfort of your own home,
make millions of dollars running your own business.

Apparently, they didn’t realize I am looking on their website because I am already in
         my comfortable home unemployed.)
  • Filling out applications – 3.5 hours (I filled out two applications online, and then another two at restaurants. The online applications ended up taking forever. Weirdly enough, they had the same format. It would have been nice to fill out one and submit it for both. There is an idea! The jobs were in two different industries so it must just be the new platform for online applications.)
  • Personality test – 1 hour (June made me take three of these as a prerequisite to us getting married! At this point I know myself inside and out, thanks Myers and Briggs!)
  • Interview – 30 minutes (It was a clean interview. After almost 5 years of experience in the industry, there wasn’t an answer I was not ready for…other than the big fat flip the manager had, which he may have caught me starring at once or twice. )
  • Grad school – 3.5 hours (3 credits every 5 weeks. Just to clarify for those of you who were wondering if I put enough time in to my school work)
  • Writing “the book” – 6 hours (The title must remain anonymous. It could really be brilliant, and June thinks so too! It is a rare thing when we both agree that an idea I have is brilliant. I am going for it!)
  • House Cleaning – 6 hours (Seriously, it may have been even more than 6 hours. I was like Johnny Mnemonic with cleaning products. Please tell me you remember that Keanu Reeves classic!)
  • Grocery Shopping – 1 hour (Hitting up our local grocer – Wegmans. It is the bomb-diggity peeps. Let me get a shout out from all my east coast Wegmans shoppers!)
  • Driving – 4 hours (I spent a lot of time with Lucinda, she is a great car!)
  • First Steps – 2 hours (Spent two hours at church with one of the great pastors there, talking about Easter stuff – did I mention it was great?)
  • Daydreaming – 10 hours (I am not sure what I did the other 10 hours to be honest, I am sure something productive.)
Well, there you have it everyone, my first week as a full-timer! Unemployed that is. I will be sure to let you know if I got the serving job!
