Mother's Month: A Review

For those of you that missed the Mother's month explanation, head back to the last post. For those of you all caught up, my Mother's month celebration with my mom was fabulous!

First, my mom came up to Rochester late Friday night. When I informed her she needed to be ready at 9:30am Saturday morning with bags packed, she thought it was some sort of an intervention. Oh Mom, the only intervention you need is an intervention for some pampering :)

We drove out to the Simple Crepes in Canandaigua NY, which is about an hour drive. I think my mom started getting suspicious at that point! It's the only Simply Crepes location we haven't visited, so now we can claim the title of official-Simply-Crepes-enthusiasts. The place was beautiful, and the food was amazing, as always. We got the same thing we always do, the Mother/Daughter Duo if you will. Two French Vanilla Coffees, a double order of the Breakfast Strawberry Crepe, and a single order of the Breakfast Potatoes w/ cheese. Yum. Can you tell we've done this five thousand a few times?

My beautiful mom enjoying her coffee, and not knowing what lies ahead in her Mother's Month celebration...

That right there is a Strawberry Breakfast Crepe.

Oh. My.

Delicious. Absolutely delicious.

Then we headed to The Chalet of Canandaigua, a gorgeous bed and breakfast that Johnny and I have visited many times, including the first night of our honeymoon. We got to stay in the Lee Suite, which is the most gorgeous room in the place. My mom (like many moms) doesn't really treat herself often, so I wanted to treat her to a night away in a gorgeous place where she could be waited on and live in the lap of luxury for 24 hours. And that's exactly what this place is. I mean, look at this:

Gorgeous sleigh bed.

Love the fireplace.

This photo does not even describe how huge this tub is. After my mom soaked in it for an hour, she declared that she must own one. I told her that they're pretty pricey, but she was still high from the soaking-experience and would have whipped out a credit card then and there.

There I am, documenting everything. My mom was so accommodating to my new hobby, and my need to take pictures of anything and everything. Thanks Mom.

The rest of the day consisted of a visit to downtown Canandaigua, jumping in and out of lots of fun shops like this one or this one. At F. Olivers, she snagged a Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar, and a Blood Orange Olive Oil. Nope, I'm not joking. Those actually exist at this place. And they're just as unbelievable as you think. We stopped at the Canandaigua Culinary Institute, and had some fun checking out the gift shop and walking the grounds.

My mom is way excited for her jalapeno jelly she bought at the gift store. We may or may  not have dug into it as an appetizer before dinner. What can I say? Like mother, like daughter!

We walked near Canandaigua lake and took pictures (well, I took pictures, and my mom helped point things out to me that I should take pictures of). We enjoyed the sunshine, the flowers in bloom, the random dogs in the park, and the little boy who lost grip of his kite, and it floated into the lake. Not joking. It was really traumatic for the little boy, but we thought it was cute!

We headed off to dinner at Casa de Pasta, a local Italian restaurant in Canandaigua. My mom and I ordered the same meal (I told you "like mother, like daughter," didn't I?), a chicken breast stuffed with lobster, spinach, and asparagus. Ugh. It was to-die-for. My little brother Sammy and his fiance Kerrie were waiting for us when we got there as a surprise for my mom. She was absolutely thrilled, and choked back a few tears at the sight of Sammy. Yup, he's her favorite. Oh, calm down Mom (I know you're reading this), I'm just messin' with ya :) The owners of the Chalet invited Sammy and Kerrie back with us for dessert. They had a fruit tart waiting that was pretty flipping incredible. We sat in front of a roaring fire (it drops to about 30 degrees at night still. Hey Rochester, if you're giving me sunny days, I'll take it), and chatted it up.

In the morning, we had breakfast at the Chalet (hence the "breakfast" part of bed and breakfast). You might have had breakfast at a place like this before, but you've never anything like what they serve. We sat down to fresh coffee, juice, lit tea candles, and roses in a vase on the table. Our first course (yup, you get three courses at the Chalet...see why Johnny and I love it here?) was a cinnamon crostini topped with mascarpone cream and fresh berries. Second course was a braised tomato topped with scrambled eggs, Parmesan cheese, and balsamic vinegar. Third course was a German apple pancake with mascarpone cream, and maple-glazed sausage with caramelized onions. Seriously. That's what we ate for breakfast. We laughed about the German apple pancake, because my Grandmother is German (we actually call her Oma as opposed to Grandma), so we ate them in her honor.

We talked the whole time. We laughed. We ate. We enjoyed each others' company. I can share my heart with my mom and know that she will always just love me. She's an incredible woman that has given more to me than I could ever thank her for. Mom, Happy Mother's Month. You rock :)
